Case Report: Bilateral Pneumothoraces due to Targeted Tumor Therapy with Regorafenib in a Young Woman with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Background: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types, frequently metastasizing into lungs. Treatment options have been vastly improved over last years. With increasing use targeted therapies, novel and rare adverse effects can be seen. Case Presentation: A 43-year-old woman presented in our oncology department with chest pain dyspnea. The patient was diagnosed colorectal seven years earlier had received chemoradiation, surgery, multiple chemotherapies before she started on regorafenib because progressive pulmonary metastases. Computed tomography scans demonstrated cavitation former nodular bilateral After drainage resolution right-sided pneumothorax, returned eleven days later recurrent symptoms caused by left-sided tension pneumothorax. Video-assisted thoracoscopy pleurodeses were performed. Persistent air leaks severe infiltrates led to death patient. Conclusions: This case demonstrates efficacy oral antiangiogenetic therapy advanced metastatic cancer. Nevertheless, it also depicts an important potential side effect transforming solid lung metastases cavitations which pneumothoraces. Special attention should paid this phenomenon as treatment these complications challenging.
